Alexandra (Aly) T. Strauss MD, PhD, MIE

Aly is an Assistant Professor of Medicine at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. She is an adult hepatologist who cares for general hepatology patients as well as pre- and post-liver transplant patients. Aly is currently funded by the NIH on a K08 to study the use of data science for improving health equity for patients referred for liver transplantation. Aly currently serves as a member of the LGBTQ+ Task Force for the AASLD, the Diversity and Inclusion Committee for ASGE, and the Quality Committee for the AGA. She is a faculty member in the Johns Hopkins University Malone Center for Engineering in Healthcare.

Previously, Aly completed her medical school, Internal Medicine residency, and Masters in Industrial Engineering at the University of South Florida. She then moved to Johns Hopkins where she did her Gastroenterology and Transplant Hepatology fellowships. She also completed her PhD in Clinical Investigation at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. In her free time, she enjoys listening to Taylor Swift and going to the park with her wife to play sort-of-fetch with their dog, Covi (he takes a lot of breaks).


Tyrus Vong BS – Data Manager & Analyst

Tyrus is a native of Baltimore, Maryland. He earned a Bachelor’s degree in Bioengineering from the University of Maryland College Park and is currently pursuing a Master’s in Applied Health Sciences Informatics at Johns Hopkins University. He currently works as a Programmer Analyst at Johns Hopkins, where he handles the provisioning of electronic health record data for projects within the Department of Gastroenterology and Hepatology and the Center for Data Science in Emergency Medicine. His professional focus centers on computational and electronic phenotyping, aimed at advancing health equity and disparities research. Outside of work, Tyrus enjoys gaming and exploring educational content on YouTube.


Vedant Jain MS

Vedant grew up in San Diego and earned his undergraduate degree with honors in Molecular Cellular Biology from UC Berkeley. Following this, he completed a Master’s in Bioengineering at Johns Hopkins. Currently, he is a third year medical student at Carle Illinois College of Medicine in Urbana-Champaign. His research focuses is on developing data-driven tools to enhance health outcomes and improving access to medical care. In his free time, he enjoys being outdoors and training for his next triathlon!

Valerie Thompson BS

Valerie grew up in Cincinnati, Ohio and completed her undergraduate studies at Miami University, majoring in Microbiology, Medical Sociology, and Spanish. After college, she joined the Johns Hopkins University Doctoral Diversity Program in 2021, conducting two years of research on disparities in access to and outcomes of kidney transplantation. Valerie is a second-year medical student at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, with a research interest in the social epidemiology of cardiometabolic disease disparities. In her free time, she enjoys hiking, watching movies, and crafting.

Lynette Sequeira MD

Lynette grew up in Richmond, Virginia and attended the University of Virginia for college, where she studied Biomedical Engineering and minored in Health & Wellbeing. In medical school at Georgetown, Lynette found an interest in gastroenterology and hepatology, and is particularly interested in the implementation of new technology in the field. Outside of medicine, Lynette loves to cook, play tennis, bike/walk along the harbor and various trails of Baltimore, and try new restaurants & coffee shops.
